Eastern Stage Company begins regular service between Boston and New Haven.

[10/1783, 11/25/1783] Operated by Levi Pease, the six-passenger stagecoaches depart from the Sign of the Lamb Inn at the corner of Tremont Street and Temple Place near today’s 140 Tremont Street [Boyden’s City Tavern and the Marlboro Hotel-Holbrook]. Known as “Stage Coach King,” Peace offers the first successful long-distance stage coach service in Boston. It is extended to New York in 1832. The week-long trip traverses the Upper Boston Post Road runs through Hartford and New Haven.
